The Holiday Sweater- Progress 1.0

The most important thing when knitting is gauge. I know this, and its something thats repeated in every single pattern ever written, because its true.

So on the topic of gauge, I did all my calculations and mini swatches, trying to figure out what yarn I needed to use. I thought I had it, knowing full well I would swatch once I got the yarn. So I bought some lovely Karabella Margrite and knit a swatch. WOW! this yarn is sooooo soft and smooth its almost creepy. I love it! .... only its not the right gauge :-(

I couldn't wait any longer, I had to see if my pattern was even on the right track, so i grabbed some cotton from my stash, its a worsted weight, to at least get started with checking the details of the pattern, till my next excursion to the yarn store. Worsted seems right.

So far so good. I'm making a little adjustment to the larger cable motif and I caught and corrected a few issues already. So I'm going to work the back next, so i can check my shaping.
Then, I'll feel good giving the final pattern a go in the lux yarn(TBD)...

(p.s. Its been really interesting figuring out this pattern. This will be my first written out pattern. I've designed stuff before, but on scrap paper and stickies for immediate use. Its fun making a legible pattern and thinking about what info needs to be written and not left in my brain.)

I can't wait to see how it turns out! Let me know if you need a test knitter for it, I'd be more than willing!

Do you know where I can find out more about a sweater worn by Kim Basinger in the TV movie The Mermaid Chair? It is a sea green cardigan - beautiful. I've contacted Sue Monk who wrote the book, members of her staff and LYS with no luck. Netflix does not have this movie either & so far no luck on Ravelry. Any help appreciated. acollopy@theoregonshore.com
