I'm back...

I'm back from my journey to San Francisco and Vancouver. (And a week back into work)

I made a point to visit Lacis, the lace museum and shop in Berkely. WOW WOW WOW!! AMAZING. I went with two artist friends, neither of whom are knitters or lace makers. Two hours later, we decided we should go get something to eat and come back. Which we did, and was probably there another hour or so.

Its three large rooms of everything lace, antique and fiber arts related. They have an extensive collection of books, supplies and of course, displays of lace. And to my surprise lots of antique clothes and hats as far back as the 1800's. Best of all, they had the afgan crochet hooks I've been looking for for so long!!!

And the lace! It was inspirational. In the past, I've swatched some lace here and there, but I always find it takes too much concentration. Some of them would make my head explode they were so intricate. Its was great to see the wide variety of lace and lace making methods that are out there. Needless to say, I'm intrigued. Tatting and bobbin lace making peaked my interest the most. They produced the kind of lace I would wear or use. I don't wear shawls and I haven't a place for doillies. I would however, put lace trim on dress or shirt, or make a lace collar.

So, who knows, it looks as though there may be some lace in my future... If my brain can handle it.
