I'm playing with other material to tat with and I love Bamboo. Bamboo yarn is soft like silk with a slightly linen like strength. I tried Mandarin Floss by Rainbow Gallery, a bamboo embroidery thread. It's really nice and it comes in great colors. I used a part of a collar design from "Tatting Theory and patterns" by Jan Stawasz.
I recently purchased a roll of 'Aunt Lydia's Bamboo Crochet Thread and like the Mandarin Floss its soft and has a wonderful hand, but its a bit fuzzy. It would make a great scarf or more fabric like tatting. As earrings, they are wonderfully light and really do look like snowflakes. So the fuzzyness has its advantage.
